Biate Cultural Organization (BCO)

Founded: 1979
Motto: "To Protect & Preserve One Culture"

The Biate Cultural Organization (BCO) is committed to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and customs of the Biate community in Meghalaya and Assam. Since its establishment, BCO has served as a platform for the Biate people to unite, share knowledge, and ensure that their language, arts, and traditions are safeguarded for future generations.

BCO actively organizes and supports traditional festivals to showcase Biate cultural practices. Among the most significant is Nûl-Ding Kût (Festival of Renewal of Life), celebrated in both Meghalaya and Assam, which marks the completion of the agricultural cycle and expresses gratitude for nature’s abundance. In Assam, the organization also celebrates the Lungzubel Festival, held in the month of October, which highlights unique customs and cultural heritage of the Biate people (the date varies each year).

In addition to festivals, BCO promotes folk songs, traditional dances, and musical instruments, while engaging youth and community members through workshops, educational programs, and cultural competitions. These initiatives strengthen community unity, cultural pride, and social harmony, ensuring that Biate identity continues to thrive across generations.
